• Recognize that people need to be unstressed to do their best learning and best performance.

• Consider sensory issues and overload when working out the best environmental fit for an individual.

• Provide total communication approaches which include a variety of augmentative and alternative communication (AAC). Facilitated communication is an AAC access strategy and may benefit some individuals.

• Recognize that individuals have intellectual needs.

• Work with individuals on problemsolving support.

• Learn to provide communication supports.
